If you have the infection for more than 2 -3 days it is better to consult a doctor immediately, but before that try some simple home care solutions like rubbing cold water and cotton on the eyes, applying some baby shampoo, avoiding make-up etc. Some time just resting your eyes is the best treatment, as red eye infections can be caused due to fatigue, too much time in front of the computer or TV screen etc. If the infection disappears after a day or so, there is no need to visit a specialist.
