Red eyes or redness in the eye can be caused by enlarged, dilated blood vessels leading to a red surface in the eye. 2) Eye infections or inflammations like Blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and corneal ulsars, Uveitis etc.
3) Allergies, bleeding problems. Glaucoma, over use of contact lenses, scratches by sand dust etc, are some of the other potential causes for red eyes.
These are basically the causes for red eyes, although there are numerous other disorders that can be responsible for the symptoms.

Care tips for red eye infections

If you have the infection for more than 2 -3 days it is better to consult a doctor immediately, but before that try some simple home care solutions like rubbing cold water and cotton on the eyes, applying some baby shampoo, avoiding make-up etc. Some time just resting your eyes is the best treatment, as red eye infections can be caused due to fatigue, too much time in front of the computer or TV screen etc. If the infection disappears after a day or so, there is no need to visit a specialist.
